EmitenTrust.com TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2026 /CNW/ -- Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today announced the Aon Pension Risk Tracker found the aggregate funded ratio for Canadian pension plans in the S&P/TSX Composite Index increased to 123.3% compared to 117.6% at the end of last quarter.

The Aon Pension Risk Tracker calculates the aggregate funded position on an accounting basis for companies in the S&P/TSX Composite Index with defined benefit plans and has been tracking this data since 2013.

Key findings for the quarter ending September 30, 2026 include:

  • Pension assets lost 1.5% over the third quarter of 2026.
  • The long-term Government of Canada bond yield increased 57 basis points (bps) relative to the previous quarter rate and credit spreads increased by 1 bps. This combination resulted in an increase in discount rate of 58 basis points, to 5.22%.

"Despite modest weakness in equity markets, Canadian pension plans saw funded positions improve during the quarter as higher discount rates reduced the value of pension liabilities", said Nathan LaPierre, Partner, Wealth Solutions, Canada, Aon. "In an environment that continues to be characterized by uncertainty and market volatility, strong funded positions provide sponsors with flexibility to manage pension risk proactively."
