MAVI Launches AI-Driven Alternative to Traditional Finance Staffing, as Highly Skilled Finance Talent Grows More Scarce
EmitenTrust.com MAVI's customers can onboard vetted global finance and accounting professionals in as few as five days and cut talent costs by 50% or more, compared with equivalent U.S.-based roles.
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MAVI today announced its launch as an AI-driven modern finance talent engine that connects U.S. companies with a network of over 3,000 pre-vetted, AI-proficient finance and accounting professionals from over 20 countries. The company also manages onboarding, compliance and payments once a match is made.
MAVI's customers span private equity and venture-backed firms, as well as public companies and CFO advisory firms, including Athena Club, MotherDuck, and Within. MAVI has helped companies hire finance professionals in as fast as five days. According to MAVI's internal cost comparisons, its global talent model cuts annual costs by 50% or more, compared with hiring professionals for equivalent U.S.-based roles, inclusive of MAVI's fees and professional compensation and without traditional staffing-agency placement fees.
Finance teams are contending with a tight labor market. Unemployment rates across business and financial operations occupations hovered at around 2.7% in 2025, compared with 4.3% across the total workforce, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Sixty-one percent of finance leaders surveyed by the Controllers Council reported a talent shortage in 2026, up from 46% in its 2025 survey.
Companies are also finding it increasingly difficult to recruit experienced finance and accounting professionals. In the Controllers Council's 2026 survey, 44% of respondents identified controller or assistant controller roles as the hardest positions to fill, followed by accounting and bookkeeping roles at 34%. The report linked compensation growth to talent shortages and competition for skilled professionals. It concluded that the talent shortage is concentrated in positions that require leadership, technical expertise and specialized skills.
Meanwhile, AI has raised the bar for finance professionals instead of eliminating the need for them. BLS expects automation to make accountants' analytical and advisory responsibilities more important. Ninety-three percent of large companies surveyed by Deloitte in 2026 stated they use AI across multiple functions and operations, but only 43% of CFOs expressed confidence in their AI governance. And none of the financial modeling professionals surveyed by the Financial Modeling Global Leaders Council this year said they are confident in relying on an AI-generated financial model for a high-stakes business decision without an independent human review.
These trends shed light on a deeper talent problem for finance leaders. Management teams are pushing finance leaders to do more with less and contribute more strategically amid flat or shrinking headcount budgets, while the experienced professionals required to govern AI-generated work remain difficult to hire. MAVI believes the traditional model of building finance teams slowly from local talent pools is no longer sufficient. MAVI's global model is designed to widen access to remote professionals who combine accounting expertise and AI fluency with the judgment needed to identify subtle errors in AI-generated output, all while keeping costs in check.
Since its founding in late 2023, MAVI has operated without a broad public launch, focusing on immediate access to highly skilled finance talent. Its annual revenue has more than tripled over the past year and it supports several hundred active engagements today.
"The skillset of the talent is incredibly strong and technical fluency is a real strength among MAVI's professionals. Their team has a great knowledge of what we need them to do and the tools we use," said Steve Nolan, Director of Financial Operations at Public.com, which hired multiple in-house senior accountants through MAVI.
"Talent we hired from MAVI have developed some of our most impressive AI work," said Zach Spicer, Corporate Controller at Crisp, another MAVI customer. "We have an AR dashboard now used across the organization, built almost entirely by talent from MAVI."
"At Ramp, I worked closely with Controllers and saw first-hand how the talent crisis was impacting accounting teams during month-end," said Molly Liu, co-founder and co-CEO, who was an early product manager at Ramp, Dropbox and Lyft before that. "We built MAVI because the answer isn't fewer people. It's better access to the right people, wherever they are."
Inside MAVI's Sourcing, Vetting and Matching System
MAVI's differentiator comes from its proprietary sourcing, vetting, and matching system, which is purpose-built for finance and accounting. The platform evaluates candidates' finance experience, technical capabilities and working styles against each company's systems, workflows, culture, and role requirements. While technology supports the initial evaluation and matching process, MAVI's expert team reviews candidates comprehensively before presenting a shortlist to its customers.
MAVI remains involved as a continuous partner instead of a one-time placement to ensure customers do not have a gap on their team.
The company has received hundreds of thousands of applications to its talent network and admits about 2% of applicants following its vetting process. In 90% of completed placements, its customers have selected one of the first two candidates MAVI has recommended.
"We think the finance team of the future looks structurally different from the finance team of today," said Aman Puri, co-founder and co-CEO of MAVI, who was previously a founding member of SoftBank Vision Fund's fintech investing arm and drove M&A and capital markets transactions at Morgan Stanley. "As AI takes over the transactional work in finance, the people who review it, question it, and own the outcome matter more than ever. MAVI's talent engine is AI-first, globally distributed, and based on a hybrid team model that combines a core group of U.S.-based finance leaders with highly skilled global finance professionals who know how to direct AI instead of merely executing the tasks it automates. That's the team we help our customers build."
